Festival Summer 2018

First day of September, I think the summer has come to an end whether you like it or not (sorry). So, let's take a final look into summer 2018 and the festivals I went to. I love going to concerts and I love photography, so it only makes sense that I loved taking some photos during the festival season. I went to two festivals this summer: Sideways Helsinki and Flow Festival.

At Sideways, I saw one of my favorite artist at the moment, Alex Cameron, for the first time. If he and his cool associates ever come to a town near you, I warmly encourage you to go and check out this cool act. His keyboard player and backing vocalist, Holiday Sidewinder, is also a solo artist. You can watch her recent music video "Leo" on YouTube. After Alex Cameron, Finnish act called Pariisin Kevät performed at the same stage. I really loved their show as well. Definitely one of my favorite Finnish band/artist.

After Sideways, I saw legendary Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. I still cannot believe I heard Yellow Submarine and With a Little Help From My Friends live! Support act was also great, a Finnish legend, Hector, who even sang a few Beatles covers and did it well. In June there was also a free concert for Helsinki Day, where I saw six Finnish artists perform.

July 24th: The Killers at Hartwall Arena. Of course it was awesome, they're my favorite band and if you know me at all, you probably knew that already. You can see iPhone quality photos/videos of these concerts on my Instagram.

August 10-11 I attended Flow Festival, one of the coolest city festivals in Europe, they say. I do agree, this was my second Flow and I just love the venue, all the cool people at the venue, the food, and of course, the music. The highlight of my Flow experience this year was definitely Arctic Monkeys. They absolutely killed it. This was their first time in Finland, but I certainly hope it wasn't their last.

In addition to Acrtic Mokeys' amazing show, I saw Finnish superstar Alma, American band Fleet Foxes, legendary Patti Smith and two amazing Finnish artists Lxandra and Anna Puu. You should check out Lxandra's Spotify. She's really great new artist and I'm really looking forward to hearing her debut album. I loved every show during these two days that I attended. I was supposed to do three days but my migraine made a nice comeback. It was all good though, the weather wasn't that great on Sunday and all of the artists I really wanted to see pretty much performed during these first two days.

Syyskuun ensimmäisen päivän kunniaksi pieni katsaus kesän 2018 festareille. Tänä kesänä kävin Sideways -festareilla katsastamassa Alex Cameronin ja siinä samalla näin myös Pariisin Kevään ensimmäistä kertaa. Kummatkin oli tosi hyviä, voin lämpimästi suositella menemään Pariisin Kevään keikalle jos ette vielä ole olleet. Pakko myöntää, että kuuntelen enemmän ulkomaalaisia artisteja, mutta suomalaisista Pariisin Kevät on yksi lemppareistani. Lavakarisma ja energia yllätti positiivisesti! Ja olihan Arto Tuunelalla aika päheet tamineet niskassa.

Australialainen Alex Cameron on ehdottomasti yksi mun lemppariartisteista tällä hetkellä. Siitä saan kiittää The Killersin Brandon Flowersia, joka ystävystyi Alexin kanssa ja sen jälkeen he ovat auttaneet puolin toisin toistensa levyjen kanssa. Tämä oli Alex Cameronin ensimmäinen esiintyminen Suomessa, mutta toivotaan että lisää keikkoja tulee tulevaisuudessa. Ja pakko vielä mainita, että rummuista löytyy suomalaisvahvistus Henri Lindström.

Sidewaysin jälkeen kävin Jäähallilla legendaarisen Ringo Starrin konsertissa (ja lämppärinä suomalainen legenda, Hector!), Helsinki-päivän ilmaiskonsertissa Kaisanimessä ja Hartwall Areenalla The Killersin keikalla. Näistä konserteista löytyy vähän kännykkälaadun materiaalia mun Instagramin "nuottiemoji" -kohokohdasta.

Kuun alussa oli Flow Festival. Tarkoituksena oli mennä kaikkina kolmena päivänä, mutta sunnuntain epävarma sää, ja uhkaava migreeni sai mut jäämään kotiin viimeisenä päivänä. Flow'n kohokohta oli ehdottomasti Arctic Monkeys. Ihan älyttömän kova keikka. Tämä oli myös heidän uransa ensimmäinen kerta Suomessa, mutta toivottavasti seuraavaan kertaan ei mene toista vuosikymmentä. Flow'ssa kävi hyvä tuuri ja sain erinomaiset paikat jokaiselle keikalle, mitkä kävin alusta loppuun katsomassa. Arctic Monkeysin lisäksi näin legendaarisen Patti Smithin, amerikkalaisbändi Fleet Foxesin, ja suomalaisista Alman, Lxandran ja Anna Puun. Kaikki edellämainitut oli todellakin näkemisen ja kuulemisen arvoisia. Erityisesti mieleen jäi Alman energinen ja cool asenne (ja skumppasuihku), Lxandran upea ääni ja Anna Puun älyttömän makee lava ja Mert Otsamon suunnittelema glitteripuku!

Niin ja kävinhän mä viikko sitten vielä oman kesäni viimeisessä konsertissa: Cheek - Valot Sammuu. Vaikka en itse ole ollut mikään kova räpin ystävä, pakko myöntää että onhan se tosi kova jätkä. Lava, koko show ja kaikki puitteet oli ihan kansainvälistä meininkiä. Meinas mullakin vähän silmät kostua vikan biisin aikana ja kun Cheek asteli lavalta pois kyyneleet silmissään. Oli hieno ja ikimuistoinen show.

Festival Summer 2017

Is there still magic in the midnight sun, or did you leave it back in '61?

Imagine seeing your favorite band from the front row in your home country. And hearing your #mce (= mancrusheveryday) speaking your mother language while being just a couple of meters away from you. If you're a true music fan (or let's face it: #fangirl4ever), you know that words cannot describe the feeling. This was the first time for The Killers to perform at a festival in Finland. The last time they were in Finland was in February 2013 which was my first Killers concert. Now I have seen them four times; three times within a year, twice during this summer (Provinssi and a week after that I went to Bilbao BBK Live festival in Spain).

The most amazing concert experience I have had in my 22 years of living, was Sam's Town Decennial Extravaganza, a 10-year anniversary concert of The Killers' sophomore album Sam's Town, at Sam's Town hotel in Las Vegas (The Killers' hometown), where they performed the whole album from start to finish, and of course Mr. Brightside and some of the biggest hits couldn't be left out. It was way more than just a concert. The hotel was playing nothing but The Killers, the drinks were named after their songs, the restaurant had a special menu for the occasion and even the movie theater in the hotel was playing movies chosen by the band members. I can't believe that it happened almost a year ago. I might do a little something when Sam's Town turns 11 years (which is very soon). Maybe some kind of blog post inspired by the album, since it is such an important album to me.

Now that we are talking about music, fangirling and concerts, I'm going to tell you a little secret. Next April I'm going to Parahoy! A 4-day cruise from Miami to Bahamas with Paramore. Quite surreal if you ask me. I am beyond excited!

iPhone Photo Diary: Ruisrock 2015

Lauantaina vietin koko päivän Turussa Ruisrockissa. Aurinko porotti koko päivän, mutta illalla olisi tarvinut vähän enemmän päälle kuin kesämekon kanssa ohuen kimonon. Asukuvat jäi kun jäikin taas ottamatta, hupsista. Tosin hiukset ja naamataulu ei olisi ollutkaan kovin kuvaukselliset lähes kahden tunnin kuuman ajomatkan jälkeen. Kuvista näette kuitenkin, mitä päälläni oli, sekä myös muita kuvia festareilta.

Lauantai oli ensimmäinen kertani Ruisrockissa, ja tykkäsin kyllä kovasti. Esiintyjinä oli mm. Jenni Vartiainen, Haloo Helsinki, Pharrell Williams ja Apulanta. Lempparini näistä oli Apulanta ja hyvänä kakkosena Haloo Helsinki. Olisin myös halunut nähdä Anssi Kelan, mutta aikataulumme vähän kärsi, kun matkaa parkkipaikalta festareille olikin vähän odotettua enemmän.

Sunnuntaina jätettiin sitten menemättä ja myytiin liput niille, joilta energiaa vielä löytyi.

I spent my Saturday at Ruisrock festival in Turku. The weather was great and so were the performers, for example Pharrell Williams and some Finnish bands such as Apulanta, Haloo Helsinki! and Jenni Vartiainen. I was wearing a strap dress, creepers and a kimono later at night when it was little chilly. I also brought a hat with me but even it was very hot, it was a little windy, so the hat would've been gone with the wind.

Earlier I told that I have tickets to Sunday too, but we came to that conclusion that it was the best to sell the tickets than drive two hours again from nearby Helsinki to Turku. After all, I was at home at 4 am -not that I had problem with that, because I'm a night owl. My feet just did not like that experience as much as I did.
